Get spooked at Chicago’s haunted houses!

Looking for a scary experience during your trip to Chicago? Don’t miss the following haunted houses and spooky walks, guaranteed to give you nightmares.

1. 13th Floor Haunted House Chicago

Location: 1940 George St, Melrose Park, IL

Have you ever wondered why buildings typically don’t have a 13th floor? This terrifying haunted house explores this mystery through two different haunted houses — The Rising and Dead End District — in one place. You’ll come face-to-face with ghastly monsters and bloody undead humans in small and dizzying spaces with twists, turns and strobe lights. If you’re into the small details and realistic decor, 13th Floor is undoubtedly the best haunted house in Chicago.

Bonus attraction: 13th Floor offers the chance to shoot shot target-wearing zombies with lasers in Zombie Apocalypse LIVE!. Make sure to buy tickets early, as they tend to sell out for this event, which only runs on certain dates throughout the year.

This haunted house is not recommended for children under 12 years of age. Tickets for the Zombie Apocalypse LIVE! (check schedule for dates) are $29.99-$39.99, depending on your mission.

2. Fear City Haunted House

Location: 8240 N Austin Avenue, Morton Grove, IL

The aptly-named Fear City Haunted House also features a Zombie Apocalypse LIVE! shooting experience, making you feel like you’re in a real life video game. Moreover, two haunted houses offer a multi-layered experience of terror, with spot on details sets and costumes leading you to forget your surroundings are staged. A humorous twist is also woven in, although we won’t spoil any surprises. A bar with drinks and bites, a rock band playing live music, a creepy sideshow, a Photobooth, free parking and costumed ghouls taking photos with guests add to the fun.

Tickets for the Zombie Apocalypse LIVE! (check schedule for dates) are $29.99-$39.99, depending on your mission.

3. Midnight Terror

Location: 9531 S 52nd Ave, Oak Lawn, IL

One of the Chicago area’s newer haunted houses, Midnight Terror is run by military veterans. Sitting in the abandoned Beatty Lumber yard, the attraction features over 15 terrifying rooms with realistic looking actors, props and animatronics. With stiff spines and a pounding heart you’ll wander through haunted woodland, a creepy crypt, scream-inducing basements and more.

Tickets are $8+, making Midnight Terror a budget-friendly Chicago experience.

4. HallowFest

Location: Chicago Botanic Garden

For families in Chicago, HallowFest is a more kid-friendly experience. Showcasing a haunted garden which you’ll explore via train — not to mention face painting, pumpkin carving, fortune telling, Halloween-themed eats, and spooky crafts and activities, it’s a day full of fun.

Tickets start at $14.

5. Statesville Haunted Prison

Location: 17250 South Weber Road, Lockport, IL

Run in terror around a maximum security prison and its cells full of weapon-wielding undead characters sneaking up on you (and even live snakes, cockroaches and rats) at the Statesville Haunted Prison. Prepare to be terrified for at least 30 minutes. End the experience with one of the attraction’s delicious funnel cakes. Note that the lines for this haunted house in particular can get very long, so it’s worth it to spring for a VIP ticket.
